A Turkish Caracal (Caracal caracal michaelis) at the San Diego Zoo. "Caracal" comes from the Turkish word "karakulak," which means "black ear."

The unfocused bg is awesome, you get the most beutiful photos I've ever seen

The caracal, was is big? I've never seen a photo of one with the entire body shown

Great shot. What a sleek cat! I like the amorphous splotches in the background. They really add a lot to the shot.

Thanks! His/her surroundings weren't as interesting in real life--the camera's focus definitely added to the environment.

I love the smaller Wildcats (almost more than the big cats). They're so lithe and agile.

Caracals are small. Bigger than a housecat, but smaller than a medium-sized dog... Probably about the size of a Lynx.
